Dokeos on the iPad

Dokeos on the iPadDokeos works smooth and fine on the iPad. We tested it on a brand new 16Gb Wi Fi machine and experienced a true comfort. The full-screen mode of Safari lets you take advantage of the 1024x768 screen resolution.

The automatic passage from vertical to horizontal view proves useless as Dokeos is designed for a landscape mode only. The touchscreen keyboard is a pleasure. You enter data in a quiz as snug as a bug in a rug. You might consider slowing down a bit when you type, to ensure all letters are in. But you get quickly used to it.

Of course, there is no Flash on the iPad so any Flash animation in a Dokeos course will not do. However, Dokeos is a fully HTML5-compliant software and does not require Flash by default.

For people who appreciate to learn in an armchair, in the train or lying in a bed, for all the ones that love showing to their friends what they learn, the iPad brings true facility.

I would not recommend it, though, for e-learning makers and pedagogical engineers. It does the job, but not well. The iPad is a display device, not a production tool. You miss the keyboard, the mouse, the multitasks potential of a standard computer.

No doubt that the iPad and its competitors open a new era for e-learning and Dokeos. But do not throw away your old good notebook, still promised to a long future!
