Blackboard import

From Dokeos

Jump to: navigation, search

Roan has developed a Blackboard import tool for Blackboard 5.5 for the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The Hogeschool Gent uses version 6 of Blackboard and there are some differences in both export-formats, so they developed a new tool for importing Blackboard courses. This development isn't available in the official Dokeos (yet).

Blackboard-items

Advalvas

Messages posted by course-admin in Blackboard are imported in the Advalvas-module of Dokeos.

Links

Links from Blackboard are added to the Link-module in Dokeos. In BB it is possible to create categories with subcategories. In Dokeos you can't create subcategories inside an existing category. So when importing a link from BB in the category category > subcategory a new category named category - subcategory will be created in the Dokeos links module.

Agenda

Agenda-items are imported in the Agenda-module of Dokeos.

Documents

There's an important difference of a document in BB and a document in Dokeos. A BB-document has

  • a title
  • a description (HTML or text)
  • zero or more files

A document in Dokeos has

  • a file
  • a description

At this moment following rules are used:

  • All files of a BB-document are imported in the Document-module of Dokeos with the title as description.
  • A BB-document without any files: a HTML-page is created with the BB-description as the content and the BB-title as filename.

TODO: Unzip so-called pakage-files (A set of HTML-pages packed in one zip-file with an antrypoint (startpage))

Forum

Our version of Blackboard (6.2.3.6) only exports the first topics of every forum. So there's nothing more to import in the Forum-module of Dokeos.

Staff information

In Blackboard a course can contain some staff-information. Current BBImport-tool copies this information in the course-description module of dokeos. Problem: Where should we store the images?
