Introduction

A wiki is a collaborative writing tool. Everybody can create a new wiki page or can edit an existing wiki page. Each change is stored so it is easy to revert to a previous version or to see who wrote what.

Development

I did not try to have a full-featured wiki but I wanted to deal with the main inconvenience of existing wiki's: their syntax. When you want to use a wiki you have to learn the wiki syntax. Not all the wikis have the same syntax so switching from one wiki to the other can imply that you have to learn the new syntax. My idea was to base my wiki on the html syntax which is the internet standard. Dokeos has a WYSIWYG editor so the users do not have to learn the html syntax. This is the strongest point of the CoolWiki (as I have named my wiki). The htmlarea has one additional button to add a link to an already existing wiki page (course wiki our group wiki)

CoolWiki can be used as a course tool but also inside a group (so each group can have their own wiki).

Features

  • Wysiwig
  • wysiwig button to easily link to other Coolwiki Pages (also to pages inside the group if the group wiki is open)
  • fully integrated in Dokeos
  • Course wiki and/or group wiki
  • History (=versioning)
  • Recent Changes: show the x recents changes
  • Show all Pages
