Dokeos community 2.0 release notes
From Dokeos
These are the release notes of an outdated Dokeos version. Please see the Dokeos releases page for more recent releases.
The first stable community release, 2.0, was released on February 8th, 2006. We welcome all suggestions and bug reports on our forum. The community / official releases separation is an attempt to improve both quality and speed of development. Dokeos community release 2.0 is the first product of this new release strategy.
This page contains a summary of changes and other information about Dokeos 2.0. For a complete list of new features and improvements, please see the detailed list of changes and the roadmap.

Improved translations
The ongoing translation work of many volunteers has provided us with 29 languages that are 60% or more (usually much more) translated, and several more languages approaching this number. The translations improve daily (see our translation tool).
Technical improvements
- All bugfixes from 1.6.1 up to 1.6.3 are also included in this release, along with several others that could not be fixed in the 1.6.x series.
- Much improved w3c xhtml compliance
- Improvements in the API libraries
- Form template - HTML_QuickFrom is used for the creation of forms (though not all of them have been rewritten yet)
Expected, but delayed
- New html editor - we are replacing HtmlArea with FckEditor, which has less bugs and supports webstandards better. We haven't had time to migrate all edit boxes to the new system, so this feature won't be in 1.7.0, perhaps it will be in late versions. If you set your server to test mode however, you will see FckEditor in some forms.
Upgrading
You can upgrade existing Dokeos 1.6 (1.6.0 up to 1.6.3) installations to Dokeos community 2.0. Since Dokeos community 2.0 release candidate 1 the upgrade is complete, though there are probably some bugs left.
Known bugs
There is one known bug when upgrading: users who have sorted courses before will see these return to a default ordering, so they might have to sort them again. There were some issues in 1.6.x versions with people not being able to order their courses (for example people who upgraded from 1.5.x to 1.6.0), and the upgrade will fix these issues. The script could be built to be perfect but time / complexity issues have prevented that for now.
Dokeos community 2.0 alpha releases
IMPORTANT alpha releases are unstable releases, designed to let the community experiment with new features and give us feedback and bug reports. They are not expected to be complete in any area. The upgrade does not work yet, you can only see 2.0 alpha by installing it. Alpha releases should not be used on production servers.
As always, take backups (see our FAQ) before installing or upgrading!
Dokeos community 2.0 beta releases
IMPORTANT beta releases are unstable releases, designed to let the community experiment with new features and give us feedback and bug reports. They should not be used on production servers. It is possible to upgrade from Dokeos 1.6.x to Dokeos community 2.0 beta, but do not expect everything to work at this stage.
As always, take backups (see our FAQ) before installing or upgrading!
Dokeos community 2.0 release candidate
A release candidate means the code is ready or almost ready for the final stable release and is intended to allow testers to ensure that there are no last-minute problems with the code.
As always, take backups (see our FAQ) before installing or upgrading!
Dokeos community 2.0 stable
We estimate the code to be stable enough to release. This version can be used for stable installations. Any remaining problems will be fixed quickly in upcoming bugfix releases.
As always, take backups (see our FAQ) before installing or upgrading!
