Software that combines Apache, PHP and MySQL
These Windows applications combine an installation of Apache, MySQL and PHP together, this means less hassle. This can be useful for users that want to experiment a little or simply use Dokeos locally. It is not advised to use this for production servers on the internet, as security may be somewhat less with this combined approach.
EasyPHP
Download at the EasyPhp website.
Wamp
Download at the WAMP5 website. For Dokeos, you also need the PHP4 add-on.
XAMPP
There are versions of this for multiple platforms. http://www.apachefriends.org/en/index.html Xampp can use php 4.x and 5.x (we need to execute a batch file for swap the version)
Vertrigo
VertrigoServ is a complete PHP development and server environment for Windows. It installs PHP 5.x.x, Apache 1.3.x, MySQL 4.x.x, and PhpMyAdmin, both installing and setting up the environment. An uninstaller allows you to remove Vertrigo from hard disc. It also installs aditional usefull software: MySQL Console, MySQL Manager, MySQLAdmin, Zend Optimiser. It also has a nice feature to easily control some of the basic PHP and MySQL settings (asp_tags, register_globals, magic_quotes_gpc, ...). It has a small icon in the windows taskbar from where you can configure Vertrigo http://sourceforge.net/projects/vertrigo
WebServerX
The WebServerX Kit installer package provides an easy way to install all the last versions of Apache, PHP, and MySQL on Mac OS X Client http://wserverxkit.sourceforge.net/

WinLAMP

WinLAMP is an installer for Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Runs on Windows NT, 2000, XP. The installer is a single executable file. WinLAMP also optionally installs phpMyAdmin, eSKUeL, SQLyog, and an ActivePerl installer.

- Inside Dokeos, there is also an online WYSIWYG html editor.

- The GIMP, http://www.gimp.org/ - great image manipulation software, there's also a tutorial. You can use the GIMP instead of the non-free software Photoshop.
