    Summary:

    Infection is one of the undesirable side effects that may occur when patients are treated in hospital. This infection is referred to as “nosocomial” when it occurs during the course of a hospitals stay. Hospital-acquired (or nosocomial) infections are a major problem for hospitals, and cause several thousand deaths each year in France alone.However, there is often no specific, complete training available during the course of study to become a physician, nurse, or pharmacy, even though these infections can only be effectively prevented by all healthcare providers working together to implement strict, approved protocols in the hospital.

    All hospital personnel as well as providers of long-term geriatric care and in-home hospitalization must be provided with regular training due to constantly evolving requirements. The training deals with theoretical and practical aspects of the fight against hospital-acquired infections:

    • Nosocomial infections, epidemiology, and pathogenic agents;
    • Preventative methods: sterilization, antiseptics, disinfectants, antibiotic prophylaxis, bacterial carrier screening, and isolation techniques
    • Hygiene procedures in hospital: preparation of the patient, hand washing, air, water, and food
    • Hygiene in treatment units: laundry, clinical waste
    • The fight against hospital-acquired infections: procedures, validation, legislation
    • Management of infectious risk and good practices in crisis management
